Dallas Lincoln had a vision for his community. In 2001, he contacted GACF to learn more about starting a group of endowment funds to benefit the greater Lakeview area. What started with the Lakeview Area Community Fund (LACF)- a GACF geographic affiliate fund- has now grown to a family of 40 funds.

“Our hope in the beginning was to raise at least $100,000 to afford a few local scholarships. We hoped to provide an opportunity for those who wish to assist graduating students in furthering their education and assist financially in community projects and worthy causes,” Dallas shared, “Today we now have over $2 million dollars allowing us to award grants and scholarships.”

The growth of LACF demonstrates the power of community-driven efforts combined with long-term vision. Ensuring future generations have resources to thrive is a point of pride for Dallas. “I like to remind existing and potential donors that, in addition to the tax advantages, their endowments are perpetual in nature and will be continuing in their names long after they are gone. I am proud to know that what we started will be “for good for ever.”

Dallas has continued his involvement with LACF, serving as a member of the LACF Advisory Committee. Additionally, he and his wife Nancy established the Lincoln Family Adult Scholarship Fund to support Lakeview-area residents deciding to pursue college later in life. Seeing the impact of LACF funds first-hand, he encourages others to learn more about LACF. “I want people to know the pride they will feel about their decision to become involved in the LACF and the joy they will receive through grantmaking,” he shared. In a few weeks, LACF will celebrate 23 years at the Annual Community Dinner, a milestone that started with a vision and has become a growing funding source for ever-changing community needs.

As GACF celebrates its 35th anniversary, we bring together the collective stories of donors, nonprofits, students, and community members to demonstrate the power of philanthropy in creating lasting impact and a stronger future.
