When the Clair and Alice Ellafrits Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2005, there were only a handful of scholarship funds available to Lakeview area students. Clair and Alice were active community members- involved with the schools and their many businesses, and their common bond was their love of Lakeview and the local youth, which led to establishing an annual memorial scholarship for a Lakeview graduate. Over the years, many additional scholarship funds have been established for Lakeview students, and as the needs of the community grow and shift, the Ellafrits family started to consider a change. Sue (Ellafrits) Brockschmidt serves on the Lakeview Area Community Fund (LACF) Advisory Board and she shared “As I have attended meetings for a few years, I have noticed a growing need to help the village of Lakeview through grants.” Honoring the memory of Clair and Alice and their love for Lakeview, the family decided the fund should evolve to the Ellafrits Family Community Fund, providing grants to local programs and organizations.
The first grant from the Ellafrits Family Community Fund will be announced at the upcoming LACF Annual Community Dinner on October 17. To make a gift to the Ellafrits Family Community Fund, click here, and select the LACF Division of Funds.
