What started off as a special project fund has become a permanent endowment with the Greenville Area Community Foundation.

John Grawburg looked forward to the day he could place a monument in Lakeview to honor the sacrifices made by all veterans and the families back home who supported them. Nearly 15 years ago, fundraising efforts for the project began. Through community crowdfunding, collected returnable cans and bottles, and personal donations to the special project fund, money was raised and construction began in 2021. The monument was officially dedicated on Veteran’s Day 2022. Now, the remaining project funds have now helped establish the Lakeview Veteran’s Monument Fund, a new designated endowment fund that will provide ongoing funding to the Village of Lakeview to support the maintenance and/or enhancement of the monument.
