In the spring of 2023, as a graduating senior at Tri County High school, Samantha Patin was awarded the Randall L. Fisher Scholarship. Now a sophomore at Saint Mary’s College, Samantha recognizes the significance of local financial support. The scholarship helped Samantha attend the college of her choice and made many new opportunities possible, like joining the Notre Dame Marching Band and forming new friendships.

Part of the Montcalm Panhandle Community Fund group, the Randall L. Fisher Scholarship was established in memory of Randy Fisher to provide financial assistance to a Tri County graduating senior interested in pursuing a degree in math, music, science, or engineering. Mr. Fisher was a math teacher at Tri County High School for over 34 years. He valued education and passed his love of learning on to his students.

Much like Mr. Fisher, Samantha is majoring in mathematics and hopes to one day be a college professor to help other students. But what makes the scholarships particularly special is her family connection to Randy Fisher. “My mom had Mr. Fisher as a teacher in high school,” she shared, “She had told me several times about his class, and I felt a full circle moment upon receiving his scholarship.”

Samantha encourages students to explore all available scholarship opportunities and seek support within their local community. Grateful for the backing she received as she embarked on her own journey, she reflects on the value of scholarships. “Having scholarship options available for students to pursue higher education is extremely generous and touches many lives. Without the scholarships I received, I would not have had these experiences.”

As GACF celebrates its 35th anniversary, we bring together the collective stories of donors, nonprofits, students, and community members to demonstrate the power of philanthropy in creating lasting impact and a stronger future.
