On a warm summer day in downtown Greenville, you will likely hear sprinkling water and happy squeals from young community members enjoying the splash pad. Located at Tower Riverside Park, at the corner of Franklin and Montcalm Street, the City of Greenville opened the splash pad in June 2021, adding a new recreational amenity for the community to use during the summer months.

A splash pad installation can be an expensive project, but the Greenville Area Community Foundation was able to provide significant grant funding, awarding the City of Greenville’s largest gift to date from GACF.

Much like water, a community’s flow is stronger when people come together. The splash pad was possible because of a collaborative effort between organizations. GACF, the City of Greenville, Rotary Club of Greenville, Habitat for Humanity, Corewell Health, and a letter-writing campaign by students at Baldwin Heights Elementary were all key collaborators on the project. Through the partnership of these stakeholders, the splash pad now stands as a strong example of what a community can accomplish by coming together for a common goal.

As GACF celebrates its 35th anniversary, we bring together the collective stories of donors, nonprofits, students, and community members to demonstrate the power of philanthropy in creating lasting impact and a stronger future.
