Sadie Quackenbush is a busy student. A sophomore at Hope College, she is studying Political Science, Communication, and English, hoping to pursue a career in journalism. With a full plate, Sadie appreciates the scholarship support she received for college. A graduate of Montabella Community Schools, she was awarded the Stanley & Blanche Ash Education Scholarship and the Darwin & Ethelda Van Houten Scholarship (part of the LACF affiliate funds). Sadie thinks of her scholarships as both helpful and meaningful- lessening the financial burden of going to college, but also serving as a great reminder of how kindness can make a difference for someone. “It is so good knowing that there are people from your hometown who are rooting for you and are willing to contribute to your future,” she shared.
Sadie credits her high school for helping her prepare for the next chapter in life and hopes other students can appreciate the role of scholarships. “I cannot thank Montabella enough for setting me up for success and providing scholarship opportunities like this,” she shared, “Applying to scholarships, especially as a high school senior, will help you get a great jumpstart on your college journey. I recommend not only applying for scholarships, but valuing them, too. It is important to understand that the people who are providing scholarships are giving so much more than money. Their support is so meaningful; they’re truly contributing to your future.”
As GACF celebrates its 35th anniversary, we bring together the collective stories of donors, nonprofits, students, and community members to demonstrate the power of philanthropy in creating lasting impact and a stronger future.
