NEARLY $40,000 IN GRANTS AWARDED TO AREA AGENCIES FOR CHILDREN’S HEALTH CARE PROGRAMS IN 2017
(Greenville) –The Greenville Area Community Foundation (GACF) Board awarded grants from the Meijer Children’s Health Care Fund in October for a total of $39,998 to projects and programs that will provide disadvantaged Montcalm County children much needed health care services.
Awards were given to the following:
- $17,417 to Spectrum Health Foundation for the United Lifestyles Child Passenger Safety Program – Funds will provide access to safety seats and child passenger safety education for approximately 200 financially-qualifying families in Montcalm County.
- $6,819 to Mid-Michigan District Health Department for Expansion of the Montcalm Area Dental Clinic – Funding will help expand the Montcalm Area Dental Clinic to address the current unmet demand for oral health services in Montcalm County; particularly for the dentally uninsured, Medicaid-enrolled and low-income residents.
- $15,762 to Spectrum Health Foundation for a CPR and First Aid Pilot Program for Schools – Funding will provide Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid training for students in Central Montcalm and Vestaburg Schools, certifying 14 school staff as CPR instructors and providing the necessary staffing, equipment and supplies necessary to pilot the program in the schools.
The Meijer Children’s Health Care Fund was developed in late 2005 as the result of a collaborative effort of community-minded people and organizations including The Meijer Foundation, Spectrum Health United & Kelsey Hospitals Foundation, the Mid-Michigan District Health Department, the Greenville Area Community Foundation, as well as, the Federal Government. The fund’s purpose is to provide healthcare services, including educational services, to economically disadvantaged children living within the Montcalm County area through indigent care programs.
